A 'Calvin and Hobbes' documentary; fewer Americans search Bing for 'how to have sex'; and Woody Allen might return to stand-up comedy?

Where would you be without Calvin and Hobbes, the comic strip? Where would I be? A soon-to-be-released documentary appears to be answering just those questions. See the trailer here.

It's amazing what keyword research reveals, especially about the fluctuations in trends. And on Bing, fewer Americans are searching for "how to have sex." See how that phrase is compared and contrasted with other keywords.

The release of Woody Allen's new movie, Blue Jasmine, has been an opportunity for interviews, and at least one interview allows that the writer-director might get back to his stand-up comedy. Read about it here -- and read two excerpts from books Allen wrote during his stand-up days.

Guess what got left at the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany?

This year, the festival's lost property office reported receiving a live, eight-centimeter-long grasshopper, a Viking helmet, two crutches, an electric wheelchair, a rucksack containing two foldable camping chairs, a case full of musical notes, 1,300 items of clothing, 520 wallets, over 1,000 identity cards, 390 mobile phones, 370 pairs of eyeglasses, 90 cameras, 80 items of jewellery and watches and 425 keys. Read more here. . Speaking of Oktoberfest, are you going to Myrtle Beach's Oktoberfest tomorrow?

I accidentally became a judge for Battle of the Bands at Abuelo's on Cinco de Mayo

I was walking about of Coastal Grand Mall around 5 p.m. after a quick visit to GNC when I got a call from Hunter Jordan, who was at Abuelo's for a fundraiser for the youth at Trinity.

Hunter said Chris Mowder of Listen Up Myrtle Beach needed another judge for Battle of the Bands at Abuelo's -- could I do it?

As a matter of fact, my wife and kids are still out of town.

So of course I went over.

Tonight I heard from these bands, all of which made for a great party:

Bitterseed

Coman Sproles & Celtic Bluze

Treehouse

Eddie Ate Dynamite

Prowler

Below the Bassline

And the winners were:

3rd place: Coman Sproles & Celtic Bluze

2nd place: Prowler

1st place: Eddie Ate Dynamite

Hey -- each of these bands deserves a listen! Check out their music by clicking their names above. Cheers!

Whatever happened to the Pussycat Dolls?

Heard any music from the Pussycat Dolls lately? I didn't think so.

I like Aerosmith's "Love on an Escalator" -- it's like "Love in an Elevator," only bumpier.

Casting out the estrogen with Rush and Iron Maiden

Kristi's in Chicago, Maggie's at camp in the N.C. mountains, Sadie's on a roadtrip with grandparents, and a friend took Audrey to spend last night.

For the first time since we moved, our new house became a bachelor pad.

Lucky me, the VH1 Classic channel was broadcasting full-length concerts of Rush and Iron Maiden yesterday evening -- both filmed in Rio de Janiero!

With no one else around, I could listen to the concerts at a suitable volume.

'Chicago' by Sufjan Stevens: Wow

I first heard Sufjan Stevens's "Chicago" while listening to Paste radio.

"Chicago" is one of the most evocative, elevating songs I have ever heard.

I don't understand it. I just enjoy it.
